Michelle-I have a difficult student that has transitioned very well into my classroom. He has been very positive and has tried very hard to please me. He even wrote in his journal on the first day of school that he loved Mrs. Dellinger!
Holly-All of my students are remembering to bring both their gray folders and their reading folders to school each day.
Jennifer - My students have done very well with the daily routine and schedule.
Rachel - My students made it through one week of reading group rotations with little to no problems! Yay! I started 'em early and the kids did awesome!
Karen - Our students have learned and are practicing their "Secret Stories" sounds/motions for the vowels (both long and short.) Thank you, Christine, for a wonderful Share Fair lesson!
Tammy-Students are working together as a whole group and as teams to earn points. All four teams have earned their first reward! We will continue to practice routines so that all students are successful.
Rita - This school year my 20 first graders are all marching down the road with me. Everyone seems to be in step and ready for a great year. 20 stars have already been earned which means a special snack today.
October Successes
Christine - I feel as though I really know where my students are academically! See, all that testing paid off! :) Karen -I spoke with the parent of a struggling reader. She shared his interests. His face lit up when I gave him a book called Machines. (Since then, he told me that Machines is his favorite book.) I am continuing to look for topics that will spark his interest and motivate him to read at home.
Tammy-Students are entering the classroom with smiles and following morning routines without teacher reminders!
Holly - All of my students successfully passed PALs.
Jennifer - Students are learning to work well with each other and to help each other with questions, especially if I am busy working with a small group or talking with another student!
Michelle-I have completed all my testing and entered all my scores on the datasheet.
Rita - This is the first month in two years that my class has earned an extra recess because of good cafeteria manners.
Rachel- My class is working hard in reading and math groups--they are remembering reading strategies and have even been able to tell their classmates what to do when they needed help remembering. The students are also enjoying math groups--many students have expressed that it is their favorite part of the day!
November Successes Rachel-- My students were AMAZING while I was absent last week. They knew the routine and helped to "hold down the fort" while I was absent. I feel so lucky to have such a responsible, caring group of students in my class!
Michelle-Conference day went very smooth and I met with 15 out of 19 parents!
Jennifer - My students just completed their published book and did a fantastic job writing about the river walk! It gets sent to the publishing company next week! We are so excited!
Holly - A student that was new to the school in September and was reading on a level A is now reading on grade level. She has adjusted very well to being at a new school and is making incredible progress.
Karen - A student who was struggling at the beginning of the school year did not want to go to the clinic today, even though he wasn't feeling well. When I found him sitting at his desk with his clinic slip in his gray folder, he said he didn't want to miss being in our class.
Tammy-Two students have matured and are making better behavior choices. The parents are very pleased with the progress that they are seeing at home also.
Lori - My beginning of the year Level A- readers who did not have 'concept of word'', are now reading at C and D Levels! Yay!

Karen- Holly and I created a subtraction game which uses manipulatives and the children get to move around. The children really like it; and, hopefully, it is helping them develop their number sense.
Tammy-We have been catching kind and helpful behavior in the classroom. Students have been working together to clean up and take care of our room.
Rita - Hooray...running records are completed and everyone has made progress. We are all READERS and loving it!!!
January Successes
Karen-The children are back from break and have settled back into our classroom routine.
Tammy-Students are showing growth in writing skills. Most students are able to write 2 sentences on a topic.
Michelle- 18 of 20 students are counting by 2's and 15 students can count by 2's all the way to 100!
Holly- Classroom behaviors are improving. Students have realized what the expectations are and they are working to improve their behavior.
Rachel--Students are doing great with writing 2-3 sentences on topic and creating their own short stories! Check out our snowman free-writes in the hallway!
Rita-My knee is working well and my substitute, Bethany Hott, is taking good care of my first graders.
February Successes

Rachel--We have had a blast learning about seasons by going on our river walk. We also completed a wiki project about our walk with Mr. Wilburn and Mrs. Strickler's class and we worked really hard!
Holly - We have read some great snow stories and have done fantastic snowy writing. The students enjoyed creating and writing about snowmen.
Karen - In our classroom, I'm applying the questioning techniques from Teaching Like a Champion. I was afraid that holding the children accountable for their answers would scare them away from classroom discussions. In reality, there are no worries. The children and I are both thinking harder about their responses and they continue to participate.
Christine- I have a student that has been working extremely hard all year. Things have been difficult for him, but he continues to plug away. He has gone from a reading level D to a level G this six weeks!
Tammy- Students enjoyed the end of the seasons unit. They were able to make snowpeople pictures and a snowman charm pin. Most of the students were so proud of their pin that they chose to wear it home.
March Successes
Tammy-Students have been working hard on addition and subtraction timed tests. They are trying to get to the "magic number 15" for correct math answers this six weeks. Students all have a "personal best" number that they try to meet or beat each week.
Holly- Students had fun learning about matter. We became scientists and investigated what things would dissolve in water. Jennifer - Dr. Seuss books have helped to make reading fun! Each reading group is working on fluency and expression as they read their Dr. Seuss book!
Michelle-I have a student that was getting only 5 correct on the timed test in the beginning of the six weeks and now he's getting 20 correct!
Rachel--We studied American women as we learned about Eleanor Roosevelt. Students asked a famous American woman 3 questions for a writing project. The students were excited to learn that women are an important part of history, too!
April Successes
Rachel--A student who has been struggling in reading has already read 10 books and completed the book reports for each. This is an indepedent reading assignment that we started a few weeks ago in my class. Now he is picking up his book to read CONSTANTLY! Some days he even chooses to read his book during centers!
Michelle-We started a new behavior plan for a student. She has to earn money for different prizes. She has been working for 2 weeks to earn money to eat lunch with me. She has made a complete turn around and we are eating lunch together on Monday!
Tammy-Students are using their dictionaries to find the correct spelling of frequently used words. They have become little editors! They enjoy finding words that need to be corrected during editing practice.
Holly- The children have been working hard and practicing their math facts. All of my students have improved their addition and subraction scores and all students have passed the assessment for this six weeks.
Karen-One of the students in my co-teaching intervention group has become quite a writer. He asks to write in his journal every time we meet. He also likes to take his writing projects back to his classroom so he can share them with his classroom teacher.
